The Workshop

The 2017 NextGen GreenChem workshop, June 12 during the 21st Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Reston, Virginia, is a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral scholars to partake in a combination of professional development opportunities and a green chemistry process design challenge. This year, the focus of the workshop will be two-fold.

The first part of the workshop taps into a new paradigm in science: the ability to communicate your research effectively to a variety of audiences. This part of the workshop will instruct participants to communicate clearly, vibrantly and conversationally with the public, media, grant reviewers, peers and family. The workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to distill their message, respond spontaneously, use communication techniques and give effective interviews. Participants will also learn how to get the most out of the conference by enhancing their networking skills.

The second part of the workshop is a unique opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral scholars to explore real-world applications of green chemistry. The workshop will be guided by experts in the field and will allow participants to experience how chemists, engineers, toxicologists and business experts can work together to think outside of the box.

Space is available for approximately 75 participants.

Organizers: Kate Anderson , Alicia McCarthy, Molly Enright, Ruben Hudson, Irv Levy, Jodi Wesemann, Adelina Voutchkova, David Leahy, Ingrid Mergelsberg and Stefan Koenig.
