2025 Technical Session
Industry Approaches Supporting Sustainability in an Evolving Regulatory Environment
This session will explore the challenges industries face in meeting current and future regulatory and public pressures. As understanding grows about how chemicals impact the environment and public health, regulations are expanding globally, with the EU Green Deal serving as a key example. These regulations are influencing product development not just in Europe, but worldwide. Alongside decarbonization efforts, companies must stay compliant with emerging legislation and address public concerns about materials of concern. The evolving regulatory landscape demands that industries be nimble and proactive in phasing out hamful and hazardous chemicals. In addition to identifying technical solutions, companies must engage with regulatory bodies and the public to ensure data-driven regulations are implemented.
For decades, sustainability has been core to PPG’s operations, allowing it to meet current regulations while anticipating future ones, positioning it as a leader in sustainability. This session will highlight how PPG and other companies have leveraged product sustainability as a competitive advantage to meet the evolving needs of customers. This session will also highlight examples of product stewardship interactions with governmental organizations and with the public. It will also showcase examples of meeting regulatory needs and interfacing with the public to inform how new products are meeting their safety concerns are of interest.
